Teaching Artist: Dorothy Hoeschen
There’s no better way to advance your knowledge of drawing and painting than working from life. And if your love is landscape painting, you need to go outside to paint. A photo may help and can fill a need, but it can’t capture a particular spot’s color subtleties and sense of place.
Because very little equipment is needed, Pen and Wash becomes an extremely accessible way to approach plein air painting. Pen, paint, a brush, paper, and water is what you need. Minimum supplies and maximum portability!
We will discuss Principles of Art, different methods of using pen and wash, the specifics of landscape painting, and the many variables of painting en plein air. This kind of artwork functions not only as a way of gathering information for larger works, but also can be a finished painting that stands on its own.
It’s hard to beat clean color mixed with flowing black line. The wash in “Pen and Wash” can be watercolor or acrylic used as a watercolor on paper. As so many artists have found, our area is rich in subject matter, so finding a special spot to paint each week will not be hard!
For ages 18+.
