Grid journaling is a simple and easy way to create eye pleasing images that come together quickly and is creatively satisfying. It also sharpens your artistic eye and composition abilities. It’s an exciting way to try something new that doesn’t take up too much room (it’s done in an art journal) and it uses supplies that, for the most part, you may already have around the house. A bonus is that it is artwork that can be carried out in small chunks of time to accommodate a busy lifestyle. What you learn about Composition, Value, and Color Theory can be carried over into other art activities if you want.
Grid journaling is meant for your own personal enjoyment with no pressure to frame it, show it, or subject it to any one else’s judgement or expectations. It’s only for you. If you can wield a glue stick, you can create a grid journal. Why should kids have all the Summer fun?

This is an introductory studio course in drawing with an emphasis on representation from direct observation. Drawing is fundamentally about learning to see and transporting that vision onto paper through various mark-making techniques. The class will consist of in-class projects along with homework assignments that will supplement the in-class work. We will learn a variety of drawing techniques and explore the variety of drawing materials available. Besides drawing projects, the class time will also include critiques and short lectures.
