Teaching Artist: Devon Chebra

This brand new class mixes the age old practice of foraging for dye materials with the newly popularized alt-photo anthotype process. Developed in the 19th century, anthotype uses eco-friendly, often plant-based emulsions, to create delicate and ephemeral final prints. Students will learn the basics of sourcing pigments, dye-making from foraged materials, use of mordants, lightfastness and fugitive qualities of the various dyes, and creation and use of transparencies and other shadow materials. We’ll coat both paper and fabric and learn the intricacies of working with each. This class is great for beginning dyers, advanced alt photo artists, visual poets, experimental artists and those trying to make more sound ecological decisions in their artmaking explorations.

No darkroom or toxic chemicals needed, and little to no water used in processing your plants into prints. Come out and play, and leave (hehe) with everything you'll need to keep printing at home! There is a $10 materials fee due the first day of class. For ages 18+.

Checks must be received two weeks prior to the start date for completion of registration in order to be added to the class roster. Registrations will be cancelled if payments are not received prior to these deadlines.
