William B Hogan
William B. Hogan is an accomplished painter, illustrator, and educator whose imaginative works bridge the boundaries between realism and the surreal. A longtime resident of Morrisville, Pennsylvania, Hogan has spent more than six decades shaping a distinctive artistic voice rooted in both observation and imagination.
Born in Maryland, Hogan’s early fascination with art began in grade school when he was asked to design a program cover—a moment that set his creative path. Deeply inspired by illustrator Harvey Dunn’s murals, he pursued formal training at the University of Maryland and later the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Hogan went on to earn his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Universidad de las Américas in Mexico City, where exposure to diverse cultures and artistic traditions expanded his visual language.
Following his service in the U.S. Army, where he earned top honors in an international Army art competition, Hogan built a successful career as an illustrator and editorial cartoonist for The Record in Hackensack, New Jersey, producing more than 7,000 published works over 26 years. His paintings have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the United States and Mexico and are held in major collections including the Newark Museum, Bergen Museum, Merck Pharmaceuticals, and the Pentagon.
A dedicated educator, Hogan has taught at the College of New Jersey, William Paterson University, and the Newark Museum. Today, from his Bucks County studio, he continues to paint vivid, thought-provoking works that explore “the idea behind reality,” inviting viewers to see the world with renewed imagination and wonder. He is a founding member of Artists of Yardley.
