Teaching Artist: Leigh Ferello

Step into the experimental spirit of the Dada movement and explore the groundbreaking photomontage techniques of Hannah Höch, one of the most influential collage artists of the 20th century. This three-hour workshop combines art history, visual analysis, and hands-on studio practice. Participants will begin with an introduction to Höch’s life, her role in Berlin Dada, and her inventive use of fragmentation and juxtaposition.

Students will learn practical collage skills—image selection, cutting methods, layering, composition, and narrative construction—while drawing inspiration from Höch’s iconic works. With ample time for creative exploration, participants will create their own photomontage artwork that reflects personal themes, contemporary issues, or purely abstract play.

Class will end with a mini-exhibition and an artist statements/share circle where you may receive positive critiques from your peers.

Materials are provided, but students are welcome to bring papers, fabrics, and images they may wish to use in their creation. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced makers.

This workshop is repeated on Sunday, February 22, 9 am - 12 pm. Click on this link to register for this date instead -- https://aoyartcenter.wildapricot.org/event-6442687
