This hands-on course is designed to help students build confidence in oil painting while focusing on the clothed human figure. Through guided instruction and live model sessions, students will learn how to see and understand values, light on form, and anatomical gesture—core concepts that bring realism and depth to figure painting.
Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your technique, this course will demystify oil painting. We'll use odorless Gamsol for a safe and simple cleanup process, and explore the many advantages of oils, including their extended open time, which allows for greater flexibility and revision as you work
Using a limited color palette, students will develop essential color mixing skills without the need for an extensive supply list. Instruction will cover fundamentals such as gesture, anatomy, light logic, and paint handling techniques.
This workshop is ideal for adults looking to strengthen their painting practice in a supportive, structured environment.
The workshop meets over two, 2-hour sessions, working from a live, clothed model in a consistent pose. While oil paint is recommended, other painting mediums are welcome.

This two-day workshop is also offered Saturdays, January 10 & 17 and January 24 & 31.

Here is a link for details regarding AOY Terms & Conditions. Online payment at time of registration is preferred. Checks must be received two weeks prior to the start date for completion of registration in order to be added to the class roster. Registrations will be cancelled if payments are not received prior to these deadlines.
